VLOG: Tough questions, lame answers

Thanks everyone who read, enjoyed, and shared my “Genealogist’s Guide to Storytelling” series! The great response shocked me, especially considering how new this blog is. So thank you!

I’m back to the bookishness side of things with a video blog today, but don’t worry. I’ve got a “genie” themed Valentine post planned for Thursday!

In this vlog, I explain that “What genre are you writing?” and “What is your book about?” are  two of the hardest questions for this writer to answer. Also, my cat makes her presence felt. Literally.

Summary: When you tell folks that you’re writing a book, you need to prepare quick, conversational answers to these two important questions.

Q: What is your book’s genre?

A: It’s a Christian Historical Mystery.

Q: What is your book about?

A: It’s about a woman who has recently lost her mother, and in an effort to prove whether there is an afterlife, moves into a so-called haunted house. However, she’ll have to settle her mother’s unfinished business in order to find out who’s haunting who.

Simple, right? Evidently not …

  1. It sounds like a great book, however my characters take over once I begin writing so I really don’t know where the book is going, all I know is that I am starting a book and going somewhere.
    Thanks for the post.
    Take Care.

    • Definitely hear you on that. Mine has changed so much as I’ve gone along, which is part of why it was so hard to nail down what it’s about. Mine’s getting close to being done, so I’m at the point that I really need to get serious about presenting it to others. What kind of book are you writing, Jose?

  2. Your book sounds quite intriguing! You are one brave girl to do a vlog! I haven’t even figured out how to work the camera on my laptop — nor do I think I want to. I don’t like seeing myself in photos, so I can’t imagine seeing myself in a video! ;)

    • Thanks Linda! I’ve been wanting to try vlogging for a while, and finally decided to just do it. And yeah, it was a little hard to include those unflattering “um, ah” shots (sans makeup and everything! Eek!) but oh well. It sure helped illustrate the point…. Hehe!
