Privacy Policy

This is my plain-language privacy policy about how information you provide to me is collected, used, and stored.

“My site,” “my blog,” and other similar phrasing means posts and pages at Bookishness and Other Beauties. “You” means readers and users of this site, contest entrants, commenters, etc. “Third Party” means people with whom I may work to provide blog content, including guest posters, interviewees and prize-providers.

1. Comments. The comments form on my site collects your name, your website (if applicable), IP address (not published), email address (not published), and commentary you provide. This personally identifiable information will be stored on WordPress.com’s servers for the foreseeable future. If/when I migrate my site to another host or server, notification of any change to this policy will be posted here.

2. Emails.

  • You may choose to subscribe to my blog via WordPress or Feedburner to receive RSS or email updates. Similarly, you may opt out of RSS or email updates through those services.
  • I may compile the WordPress and Feedburner subscriber lists and store offline, in my email address book, and/or via an email list manager service for the purpose of special event communications (for example, Street Team opportunities, Book Release Day, subscriber-only offers, etc.) “Special” means “rare.” If you are a blog email subscriber, you may email me with the subject “Email Black List” if you wish to opt out of special event communications.
  • If you email me, I may retain a copy of your message, your email address and any additional contact information included in your signature, and my response.

3. Site Traffic. My site uses WordPress statistics to analyze traffic. This includes both non-personally identifiable information as well as personally identifiable information, such as:

  • aggregates of site visits
  • views by country, categories and tags
  • top posts and pages
  • links clicked
  • referral links to my site
  • search terms used to find my site
  • comments, follows and social media shares.

This information is collected via WordPress and is used by me to understand how readers use my site and how I can improve it. If you share my site via social media and I see it, I may interact with you. (Seems fair, right?) If/when I begin to use another service to analyze traffic, such as Google Analytics, notification of any change to this policy will be posted here.

4. Giveaways. From time to time, I may host giveaways on my blog. I receive no compensation to do so. If ever a giveaway prize is equal to or greater than $600 USD in value, a Form 1099-MISC will be filed with the Internal Revenue Service. If you win, your full name, address, and SSN or tax ID number will be required for prize delivery and will be retained in my tax records. However, typical prizes will be books less than $30.00 USD in value unless otherwise stated. You may enter by leaving a comment on the giveaway post.

I will select winners via drawing names from a hat, because I am not fancy. If I am providing the prize, I will contact you to request shipping information, which will not be retained after shipping. If a Third Party is providing the prize, I will give your email address to the Third Party, and the Third Party may then contact you for shipping information in order to deliver the prize.

5. Links. I’m not responsible for the content or integrity of sites other than my own. A link on my site is not an endorsement.

6. Disclosure. I will disclose information collected on my site if compelled by law to do so.

7. Veracity. If you wish to verify, change, correct, or remove information you have provided to my site, email me the details of your request and I’ll take care of it.

8. Updates. This policy will be updated periodically as needed. Notification of any changes to this policy, along with the effective date, will be posted here.

Effective February 19, 2013.
